Modernising IT infrastructure and creating a secure, reliable platform for a leading local charity
West Berkshire Mencap is an independent Newbury-based charity supporting children and adults with learning disabilities, along with their families and carers. Although affiliated with Royal Mencap, it operates as a separate local charity serving the West Berkshire community.
Reliable, secure technology is essential to help staff deliver services effectively while ensuring charity funding is used wisely.
West Berkshire Mencap approached Equity during an urgent tender process, looking for a technology partner to modernise its ageing IT environment and provide more strategic support. Its systems had become fragmented, with ageing servers, unreliable backups and infrastructure that was increasingly difficult to manage and support.
With Windows Server approaching end of life, the charity also faced rising security, compliance and operational risks.
Equity designed and delivered a modern, cost-effective IT platform to improve reliability, security and day-to-day efficiency.
The solution included:
The project gave West Berkshire Mencap a more reliable, secure and future-ready IT environment.
By modernising legacy systems and moving towards cloud services, the charity improved resilience, connectivity and security while reducing reliance on outdated infrastructure.
The solution balanced operational needs with budget pressures, helping the charity focus more resources on supporting its community.
It also established a trusted long-term relationship with Equity for ongoing support and strategic advice.
“We are a technology-bound business, and we needed hands-on management to help us grow. We wanted to work with a business which was professional but also personable, and that is Equity in a nutshell.
It was important to us to have someone we could trust; it wasn’t about cost. We wanted to work with a company that has your best interests at heart and will give you the best they can. It’s their personable approach which really makes them stand out from the crowd, and the working relationships which they are really good at cultivating.”
